Welcome to VCU’s Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education (LSEE) Program. If you are interested in teaching at the elementary level then the LSEE degree program may be for you!

The Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education major provides students with a broad background in the elementary content areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts, as well as a foundation in education history and pedagogy.  The BIS in LSEE provides a foundation for a teaching career ranging from pre-K through sixth grade. Many students pursuing Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education as a primary major have sufficient elective space to pursue a minor in another discipline.

The Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education BIS degree in the College of Humanities and Sciences is designed in conjunction with the Master in Teaching in the School of Education as a 5.5 year, dual degree program.  Students who fulfill all the requirements for the LSEE undergraduate degree are accepted into the three semester MT Program. Upon successful completion of both degrees, graduates are eligible for initial licensure from the Virginia Department of Education.

Deciding on your degree of study is an important decision that should be thoroughly researched and well planned. Take a look through the information provided. Please let us know if we can answer questions or offer assistance with planning your progress towards graduation.
